On August 17th, five close friends all aged 17 and from the same school undertook the challenge of walking the Three Peaks. This involved climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours. The three mountains are Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1345m), Snowdon, in Wales (1085m) and Scafell Pike, in England (978m).
The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) - twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance.
The Fantastic Five : Max Gerrard, Max Prior, Harry Skinner, Jacob Walford & Zubin Chinwala - completed their challenge in 22hrs 45 mins.
Despite sore legs upon completion - they and those around them were very proud. They wanted to use this opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile cause, choosing The Sebastian Hunter Memorial Trust ...and that they did - raising just over £6,000!.
'Seb's' is a charity set up in 2001 in memory of Sebastian Hunter, who sadly took his own life aged just 18 years. Seb was uncle of Jacob, so this was a cause very close to home.
